The Mercedes M156 6.2L V8 engines vary between 457 PS/336 kW for the C63 AMG to 525 PS/386 kW for the C/CL/CLK/S/SL/R/E 63 AMG. All M156-engined models use 7G-Tronic automatic transmissions, with the 2009 SL 63 and 2010 E63 models using 7-speed MCT dual-clutch transmissions.

In 2009, AMG developed the M159 engine based on M156 platform (as used in SLS AMG). The M156 engines are being replaced by the M157 5.5L V8 Twin-turbo, however the M156 remains in production for certain models such as the C-Class. Unlike the M156 normally aspirated 6.2L V8 developed by AMG, the M157 is based upon the M273 engine, which produces more power and is 25% more fuel efficient.

The 65 models are powered by a variant of the M275 engine, while the AMG version has a larger displacement (5980cc), re-configured twin-turbo and charge-air cooling system.

RENM offers performance tuning for select Mercedes and AMG performance models. All data indicates performance gains achieved with ECU tuning. Tunes with ‘stages’ indicates that gains are achieved in combination with other performance upgrades.
